The 53-win Detroit Tigers have fought through injury adversity all season. Now they may have some of the worst news yet.

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers will give Kerry Carpenter’s nagging hamstring injury an extended rest. The Tigers plan to place Carpenter on the 10-day injured list before Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals. Shortstop Trey Sweeney will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take his spot.
