Minneapolis has approved an agreement with the federal government in response to the murder of George Floyd that would require reforms within the city’s police department under long-term court supervision.

The Minneapolis City Council has approved a consent decree agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice that will implement major reform within the Minneapolis Police Department. The agreement comes after a two-year investigation from the DOJ into the MPD's patterns and practices.

(Reuters) -Minneapolis' City Council voted on Monday to agree to systemic reforms to its police department and to submit the department to outside oversight after a U.S. federal investigation spurred by the 2020 murder of George Floyd uncovered a pattern of civil rights abuses.
