A federal judge blocked the Trump administration Wednesday from ceasing deportation protections for Haitians before the date set to do so under the Biden administration.

A federal judge ruled the Trump administration could not cut short the protection for migrants from Haiti, which has been under a state of emergency since March 2024.

Maine immigration advocates warned hundreds of people living in Maine to escape wars, gang violence and natural disasters would have faced deportation within weeks had the administration terminated their legal protections.
