Heading into a season with expectations as high as they’ve been in more than a decade, the University of New Mexico men’s basketball team is already starting with a target

The 2024-25 Mountain West preseason men's basketball poll shows the New Mexico Lobos are predicted to finish second in the conference this season.

Boise State senior forward Tyson Degenhart was voted the preseason player of the year. San Diego State forward Pharoah Compton earned the preseason freshman of the year award. Nevada fifth-year guard Kobe Sanders was named the preseason newcomer of the year The 6-6 transfer averaged 19.6 points for Cal Poly last season.

Last year's Wolf Pack squad finished with a 26-8 overall record, including a 13-5 mark in the Mountain West, second-best in the conference.
