Microsoft and ASUS have launched the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally x, giving two impressive options for PC gaming on the go. Which should be on your Christmas list?
There are currently, at launch, 40 supported games, including Fortnite, Gears of War: Reloaded, and Hollow Knight: Silksong. Though I should note that we were told for the ROG Xbox Ally X launch that there will be "support for 150+ titles and more to follow", so watch this space, I suppose.
Microsoft just released some software updates for the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X handheld systems. There are some good quality-of-life improvements here.
With performance benefits and a slick interface, the Xbox Full Screen Experience is now available for the Ally X, Legion Go, and more.
While the default allocation includes the case, a kickstand, and a skin of your choice, you can also add on a travel cover which provides extra protection while the Xbox Ally or Xbox Ally X is not being used. Other add-ons include stick grips and screen protectors, both of which are well-implemented.
These updates continue ASUS' tradition of improving the stability and performance of its handhelds post launch, and we're happy to see them.
CORRECTION: Asus said the Xbox ROG Ally X handheld has seen high demand and is in short supply. Expects to generate NT$ 3 to 5 billion ($96m – $160m) in sales from its Ally line this quarter, stabilizing at around NT$ 4 to 5 billion each quarter ($130m – $160m).
The ROG Xbox Ally X is already in short supply despite its $999 price and niche category — but that’s not a disaster. In fact, it’s a strong signal: demand has out-paced ASUS’s expectations, suggesting the market for high-end handheld gaming PCs is real.

The updates also include bug fixes and performance improvements across various aspects of the gaming handheld device.
Microsoft and Asus have rolled out a new update for the ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, with the primary focus on default game profiles. That's the descriptor for titles to not only run well themselves, but to make sure the handheld is running efficiently as well--without owners having to tinker with settings.
Default Game Profiles for the Xbox ROG Ally will boost the frame rate if games are underperforming while sacrificing a bit of battery life. And vice versa.
