Vijender Gupta, 61, born in Delhi, is a three-time Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Rohini constituency. In this year’s Delhi Assembly election, he won his seat with a margin of over 37,000 votes – highest among all the BJP candidates who emerged victorious.

BJP has appointed Vijender Gupta, MLA from Rohini, as the new speaker of the Delhi Assembly. Gupta, previously the Leader of Opposition, won his seat by over 37,000 votes against AAP’s Pradeep Mittal and has been a prominent figure in Delhi BJP.

A three-time MLA from Rohini, Gupta served as the leader of the opposition from 2015 to 2020, and for a short period of time from June 2024 till the last assembly term ended this year.

For years, Vijender Gupta being forcibly removed from the Delhi Assembly was a familiar sight during AAP’s rule. Now, in a twist of fate, the BJP's return to power after 27 years has propelled him to the Speaker's chair.
