He threw for 2,800 yards on 8.3 yards per attempt with 27 touchdowns and just five picks in the Big 12 this year, adding on 580 yards rushing on 100 carries to boot. He's big (6-foot-3, 235 pounds), fast and has arm talent to spare; if you simplify things for him and sand down some of the edges, he absolutely looks the part of an NFL starter.

Dolphins 3-Round 2026 NFL Mock Draft: Miami may be ready to overhaul another position group just like last year’s defensive tackle rebuild
The Miami Dolphins' push to climb back into playoff contention is running out of time. Miami is in need of a minor miracle from elsewhere across the AFC while also needing to double their current 4-game win streak in order to have any shot at the postseason.

Kenneth Gainwell's breakout game vs. Dolphins proves the Steelers may have wasted valuable selection in most recent NFL draft
And following a game where Gainwell led the Steelers in rushing yards and receptions, that's unlikely to change. Pittsburgh has its thunder and lightning duo with Warren and Gainwell. That third round pick would have better been served at the cornerback or WR position.
As for the remainder of 2025, New York Jets flameout Zach Wilson and seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers are the other candidates to start. Wilson began the year as Tagovailoa's backup but Ewers usurped him in Week 7. It's been a competition ever since, with Wilson being the No. 2 most recently.
Staff report Miami Dolphins rookie defensive lineman Zeek Biggers (West Rowan, Georgia Tech) was credited with a sack in Monday’s 28-15 loss to Pittsburgh that eliminated the Dolphins from the playoff picture.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived WR Ke'Shawn Williams ahead of their Week 15 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
Bench Tua Tagovailoa for Zach Wilson or Quinn Ewers? Mike McDaniel back on hot seat? McDaniel lacked urgency in fourth quarter?

Dolphins have no easy fix for tenuous QB position
On Monday, the Dolphins were officially eliminated from playoff contention following an ugly 28-15 road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In hindsight, maybe the Dolphins didn't need to make the trade; they're 4-0 since the deadline. Regardless, the position has gotten weaker, and ESPN's Field Yates predicted they'll target edge in the 2026 NFL Draft. With the projected 12th overall pick, Yates has Miami picking Auburn edge Keldric Faulk.
