Initial reports suggest as many as 19 tornadoes hit Missouri over the weekend. Gov. Mike Kehoe’s Office said the twisters left widespread destruction in 27 Missouri counties – killing at least 12 people and leaving one person missing.

Twisters that tore through Union County, Missouri killed 6 people. One couple survived against incomprehensible odds in a trailer obliterated by the storm.

The National Weather Service said Monday that at least seven tornadoes hit central Alabama on Saturday. The tornadoes, which ranged from EF0 to EF3, left at least three people dead and three others injured between Saturday night and Sunday early morning,

At least seven tornadoes hit Alabama on Saturday, and that number will likely climb even higher later today. The National Weather Service plans to continue looking at storm damage and has several areas that will be visited by storm survey teams today (Monday).

"The scale of devastation across our state is staggering," Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe said. "While we grieve the lives of those lost, we are also focused on action."

Nine of the 12 fatalities reported during last week's severe weather outbreak occurred in Wayne and Ozark counties.
