A New York federal judge has ruled in favor of Haitians with temporary legal status in the United States, deciding on Tuesday that the Trump administration was wrong in deciding to cut short their end date by six months.

A federal judge said the Trump administration did not give 500,000 Haitians scheduled to lose Temporary Protected Status enough notice of deportation.

A federal judge on Monday blocked the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) attempt to cut short Haiti’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS), ruling the agency lacked authority to end the protections ahead of schedule and failed to follow proper legal procedures.
