The new Windows 11 24H2 update has a new bug affecting sfc. The tool keeps returning false positives. It finds “corrupt files” that require “fixing”, except there’s nothing wrong with the file it has detected.

Even though SFC repairs these files, the same issue happens each time the scan is run. This may be happening because of a bug introduced with Windows 11 24H2, where these WebView2 files are incorrectly flagged as corrupted. Specifically, SFC is finding that the “0000017e Hashes for file member [l:31]’Microsoft.Web.WebView2.Core.dll’ do not match.”

Users who upgraded to Windows 11 24H2 found that it created a cache that cannot be deleted. Disk Clean-up identified it as an 8.63GB Windows Update cache.

The Windows Update cache is undeletable after installing the Windows 11 24H2 update. Microsoft is aware and working on a fix.
