Some Republicans reportedly have worries that redrawing the maps could make their seats more vulnerable if the midterm environment is favorable to Democrats.

The state legislature will take the rare step of considering a mid-decade redrawing of district lines in light of concerns raised by the Justice Department.

Democrats criticized Gov. Greg Abbott for seeking a redistricting, favored by President Trump’s political team, just days after devastating floods in Texas.

Kelly Kenten Giles, 64, is accused of providing false information on his application and petition to run for the Randall County Republican Party Chair seat.

"You shouldn't have to have a son in the NFL to own a home. Everything's backwards," said Allred in his Senate race announcement video.

The mayor also brought up the return of a visible countdown timer to enforce speaking limits in public comment.

Democrats last carried Texas in a presidential election 49 years ago, last elected a U.S. senator there in 1986 and have lost all statewide elections since 1994. Texas Republicans could, however, surrender their considerable advantages and lose the state’s 2026 U.S. Senate election.

Former Texas Rep. Colin Allred is running for Senate again, this time against Republican John Cornyn, who faces a tough primary challenge, too.
