Oscar, a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, reached Cuba after making landfall in the Bahamas hours earlier.

Hurricane Oscar made landfall Sunday evening on the northern coast of east Cuba before it weakened to a tropical storm as it moved across the island, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Oscar, which the National Hurricane Center characterized as "very small," is the 15th named storm of the hurricane season.
