Before the team's performance materialized into a 4-1 victory over the Red Wings, all eyes were on Igor Shesterkin following his putrid game on the weekend opener.

Igor Shesterkin made 31 saves, Mika Zibanejad had a goal and two assists and the New York Rangers defeated the visiting Detroit Red Wings 4-1 on Monday night.

Igor Shesterkin is set to start in net tonight for the New York Rangers against the Detroit Red Wings. Shesterkin was the first goalie off the ice during morning skate on Monday, indicating that he will get the start. The 28-year-old goaltender played in the two other regular season games for the Rangers as he’s yet to take a night off.

The New York Rangers are coming off a loss to the Utah Hockey Club. After the loss, the team put an emphasis on limiting the goals they allow. They were successful in that mission on Monday, as Igor Shesterkin allowed one goal in a 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Reilly Smith padded the lead with his first goal as a Ranger early in the third, roofing a wrister from the top of the right circle to make it 3-1. It came on the second assist of the night for Zibanejad, who later added an empty-net goal after going point-less in the first two games.

Despite the 2024-25 season being underway, the New York Rangers will still try and sign Igor Shesterkin to a huge extension.
