Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich smashed the women’s world marathon record in Chicago on Sunday, taking almost two minutes off the previous best to win the race in 2:09:56.

Kenya's Ruth Chepngetich put on a performance for the ages as she obliterated the women's marathon world record in Chicago on Sunday.

The 30-year-old Kenyan became the first woman to break a marathon time of 2 hours 10 minutes, and cut almost 2 minutes off the previous women's record.
