Bank of America's Q3 earnings fell both Q/Q and Y/Y, but they topped the Wall Street consensus, helped by strength in its Global Markets and Global Wealth and Investment businesses.

Yahoo Finance analysts, on average, predict BofA's third-quarter earnings will average 77 cents per share. Earnings came to 90 cents per share in the third quarter of 2023 and landed at 83 cents per share in the second quarter of this year.

The sell side has subdued expectations for BofA's Q3 earnings. In terms of relative sector performance, Citigroup has been a big laggard, though it has started to turn operationally.

Bank of America, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup will be the next big banks to report results on Tuesday. They follow JPMorgan and Wells Fargo, whose earnings last week were well received by Wall Street.

Bank of America is scheduled to report third-quarter earnings before the opening bell Tuesday. Bank of America signaled in July that a rebound in net interest income was coming in the second half of this year.
