Clinton Portis, who rushed for just under 10,000 yards over nine NFL seasons and was a two-time Pro Bowl selection, has been named DeSean Jackson’s running backs coach and run game coordinator at Delaware State.

Delaware State University’s football program has added another NFL great to its HBCU football coaching staff. Newly hired head coach DeSean Jackson has appointed Clinton Portis as the team’s running backs coach.

Portis is second on the Commanders’ career rushing leaderboard with 6,824, behind only John Riggins (7,472), though the latter played 30 more games with the franchise. Riggins (79) is also the only Washington player with more rushing scores than Portis (46).

Former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson is gearing up for his first season as the head coach of the Delaware State Hornets. He's been tasked with shaping up the program, which went 1-11 in 2024 and finished last place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The team has also not had a winning record since going 6-5 in 2021.

Former Miami and NFL running back Clinton Portis is joining DeSean Jackson's Delaware State coaching staff as running backs coach and run game coordinator. Like Jackson, this will be Portis' first foray into the collegiate coaching ranks.
