As the Maple Leafs hit the ice for their morning skate, two days ahead of a clash with the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, reporters in attendance were quick to spot that two key figures were notably absent from the group. Missing were both forward John Tavares and goaltender Joseph Woll, both of which are not good signs for the Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs haven’t even played a game yet and already Woll is hurt. It will be Anthony Stolarz starting the opener in Montreal, not Woll, who couldn’t play in Game 7 last spring because of injury and is now dealing with another undisclosed ailment.

Based solely on the reaction of co-host Justin Bourne, Kypreos’ suggesting that there’s a lack of trust there that needs to be earned back seems hyperbolized. Just watch Bourne’s facial reaction when Kypreos kicks off the conversation.

For a goalie who wanted to be healthy and reliable this season, Woll has not gotten off to a good start. It's a good thing the Maple Leafs have goaltending depth out the wazoo.

Few Maple Leafs looked more glum during opening night home introductions than Timothy Liljegren. As the camera panned the Toronto bench of those not in uniform Saturday, the Swedish defenceman’s doleful gaze looked even more mournful when his close-up was enlarged on the Scotiabank Arena screen.
