The cost of a Mega Millions ticket is more than doubling, but the multi-state lottery game is promising that the bigger price comes with better odds.

Mega Millions tickets will cost $5 per play starting in April as the lottery game implements multiple changes, including a built-in multiplier.

In what the operators of the lottery numbers game call a “mega” makeover, a new and improved Mega Millions will launch in April 2025.

On Aug. 31, the Blue Bridge lottery club member had a lucky feeling, so they stopped at the Y & K Party Store located at 5658 South Division Ave. in Kentwood and and purchased a Mega Millions ticket, according to the Michigan Lottery. A few days later, they returned to the store and something caught their eye.

The Arizona Lottery offers multiple draw games for those aiming to win big. Arizona offers Powerball, Mega Millions, The Pick, Triple Twist, Fantasy 5 and Pick 3 as well as Scratchers, Quick Draw and Fast Play.

Beginning April 2025, the cost of a Mega Millions ticket will go up from $2 to $5 — marking a 150% increase. That’s just one of many upcoming changes to the game that officials hope will result in improved jackpot odds, more frequent giant prizes and even larger payouts.

This jackpot was an estimated $150 million for Friday night's drawing, according to the Mega Millions website. The last jackpot was won on September 10, a single winner from Texas won an $800 million jackpot.
