Sep 15, 2013 · A's (I was in 8th grade). The donuts were made fresh, and they would still be warm from baking. I know it's long gone, but that bakery was a popular one at the time ('56-'57). Jan 11, 2012 · Henry's Bakery in the 500 block of Salem Ave. (near North Ave.) had the best cream-filled donuts. This was a must-stop location before and after delivering Sunday morning papers. Oct 22, 2008 · Other long closed places are the Frisch's and Ponderosa at the corner of Main and Nottingham, the Dunkin' Donuts and Pizza Hut which are now payday advance places and of course, Shearers (my favorite ice cream place). Dayton Band moved further north on Main but it's now closed also.

Jul 1, 2007 · In my neck of the woods, at the Spin-Kemp Shopping Center, we had a Super Duper Grocery with the best bakery ... great donuts and fresh-baked Italian bread. We used to go buy a loaf for a dime or something ridiculous! LOL We also had Houser's Pharmacy. I bought a whole lot of baseball cards there.
