June 6, 2019. A far easier day for Col. Ed Shames, then the last living officer from Easy Company, who commemorated the 75th anniversary of D-Day with champagne courtesy of Moet Hennessy. Ed Shames jumped into Normandy, then took command of Easy’s 3rd Platoon, serving with the ‘Band of Brothers’ until the end of the war. At Hitler’s retreat at Berchtesgaden, Ed helped himself to a bottle of cognac. Years later, he opened it to toast his son’s bar mitzvah. Rest In Peace, old friend, and Currahee!
