Do you recognize this sound? Considered by many as the announcement of spring, this distinct, loud, high-pitched “peep” is the call of a spring peeper. More often heard than seen, these very small, pale-brown frogs can be recognized by the X-shaped mark on their backs. #WildlifeWednesday | NYS Department of Environmental Conservation

We've been enjoying the melodious chorus of spring peepers! In spring, they’re one of the first species to start calling, with males emitting a high-pitched "peep" at one-second intervals. Breeding season begins in February and lasts until June. Males call from the water’s edge, where females can lay up to 900 eggs, which are fertilized as they’re laid. The eggs are attached to dead leaves or sticks and hatch within 3 to 14 days, depending on water temperature. The tadpoles undergo metamorphosis

How do you define the term "spring peeper" 🐸? 1⃣ Any frog I hear in the spring 2⃣ Anything peeping in the spring 3⃣ Pseudacris crucifer 4⃣ Any frog, I am chaotic and possibly evil 5⃣ Stop it, I live in the west 🎥 Megan Seymour/USFWS. A spring peeper's vocal sac inflates as it makes several short "peep" calls. | U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Did you hear chriping last night? Spring peepers are coming out of hibernation making their distinct chirping sounds. Many inland areas heralded their sounds. Coastal communities may have to wait a couple more weeks. | New Jersey Forest Service

🔊🐸 Spring peepers are known for their high-pitched mating call, a sound they repeat about 20 times a minute. But did you know that the faster and louder they sing, the better the chances of attracting a mate? 💕 What do you think about this peeper’s chances? #WildlifeWednesday | West Virginia Division of Natural Resources

🔊 the sounds of spring! The spring peeper is a small chorus frog that is common here in the United States. These little frogs are very tolerant of cold conditions and can withstand freezing during winter hibernation due to a natural "antifreeze" in their blood 🐸 #cbusmetroparks 📍 Prairie Oaks Metro Park | Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks

Hear that?! It's a sweet chorus of spring peepers! These tiny amphibians, no more than 1'' long, begin singing in early spring to attract future mates. The males typically start their "peeping" sounds in March up until June. The warmer the weather gets, the more mates they can attract so they can reproduce. Fun fact: female peepers lay their eggs singly (aka one at a time), attaching them to submerged vegetation. A female peeper can lay up to 1,500 eggs! So, next time you are out exploring, keep
