78 years ago this morning, 11 Lancasters of 617 Squadron returned home to RAF Scampton following Operation Chastise. 8 Lancasters had been lost, along with 53 RAF aircrew. 80 years ago, in January 1941, the Avro Lancaster flew for the first time.
